Work Placement

Hello!! havnt been on here for a while. im happy to say that i have graduated grom UCF with a BA in digital animation, ill miss uni very much...... but, i have started a five week placement at Spider-Eye studios in St. Just, Cornwall and have enjoyed my first day and the people are all friendly. i am going to be exploring the role of a junior animator in this studio on the production, 'Jungle Junction'. So far, i have been doing some test animations with the rigs from the show and have been trying to get to grips with XSI as i am used to maya. i am very keen to get to know my way around an am willing to do just about anything to help out! anyway, break over, i am going back to work. cant wait to get stuck in!!!!

great dane first attempt

the great dane for my comparitive study in my innovations project. using what i learned from animating the horse rig, i animated this without reference first to get my head around the rig and to illustrate the difference between perception and reference.

Dodgers Shackles test 1

Ok iv bee looking at trying to cteate dodgers chains for his shackles so i have done some tests, iv used IK handles but they always seems to move only from one side and is not that useful for creating a chain that can move realisticly.
So i looked searched for tutorials for creating a chain in Maya, i came across this tutorial click to see tutorial. this tutorial was very simple and easy to follow so i produces this test. It uses riged body dynamics. By cleverly making the mock arms a parent of the nail constraints, i was able to animate these arms and the chain will follow, like so....

am now trying this on Dodger

dodgers beard test render

animation for Jacobs Boxer rig rough

as i am trying to get a showreel together i have animated Jacob's Lightning Mike Rig. its a good rig, simple to use and deforms quite nicely

this is a rough sample of the soundtrack kindly produced by Cap'n Gallows!!!!

Thursday 15 April 2010

Friday 9 April 2010

here is a chunk of the blockthrough

its a bit rough and ready but hopefully makes sense!! although without the sound and the facial expressions some things may look a bit random at the moment

shot_43 one of the complicated ones!!

stupid constraints!.....stupid block through lol

AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monday 22 March 2010

more blockthrough

i think Dodgers beard is just about there!!

i have chosen to use paint effects in maya because they move with the mesh when i apply a blend shape. this was great as i dont have to make seperate blend shapes for the beard. i also dont have to mess around with the button constraint which would have been a pain. the only problem is that the paint effects do not render out in mental ray but only in maya software so i now need to find a way to render it all together, maybe converting them into polygons, but this seems to turn them see through. will need to consult the georg!

Friday 19 March 2010

the block through has started!!!!!

Oddney and i have started the block through. Oddne is doing a great job and has sat down and has worked solidly through today! these are two shots i have done today

Wednesday 17 March 2010

dodgers beard.. continued

possible hair for dodger. it looks quite realistic but also quite stylized, enough to fit in with the character

quadraped

as i am thinking of aplying to cinisite for an internship i have been animating everylunch time. this lunchtime i have been animating a horse rig i downloaded. on the aplication form it said i needed to show a quadrapet cycle so here it is. it still needs work but is not bad for my first attempt at a four legged creature

Monday 15 March 2010

just a refresher

as i am getting ready to animate, and its been a while, i am just refreshing my animation skills every lunchtime. once the rigs are finished i will be using my characters. but for now im just using downloaded rigs

Monday 1 March 2010

blend shapes for swash

been havin trouble with this as there is quite characteristic detail in the model and moving the skin around sometimes distorts the character or completely folds in on itself. am soldiering on and the next challenge is to make his moustache follow his top lip

the Animatic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This first came out at over 5 minutes long! so some of my 331 drawings had to be dropped! i cut out some sequences as they seemed to only complicate the story although they would have been nice shots to animate but they are not worth makin the story suffer. i managed to cut it down quite a bit and along with some new frames to link others together it ended up at 3 mins 48 which is a nice time for me

the storyboard

finally got it finished after 331 drawings! i took careful consideraions on camera angles to produce some interesting shots. here are some examples
